Chicken Inn FC return to Luveve Stadium on Wednesday looking to continue their impressive resurgence when they host TelOne FC in a Castle Lager Premier Soccer League Matchday 24 fixture.
The Gamecocks head into the midweek clash in high spirits after securing back-to-back league victories, while TelOne travel to Bulawayo searching for a result that could revive their campaign.
After Matchday 23, Chicken Inn occupy 11th place on the league table with 30 points, while TelOne are 16th with 17 points, making the encounter important for both sides as the race for points intensifies.
The two teams met earlier this season at Ascot Stadium, where Chicken Inn claimed an impressive 2-0 away victory. The Gamecocks will now be aiming to complete a league double, while TelOne will be hoping to reverse that result.
History also favours the Bulawayo side. In seven previous PSL meetings, Chicken Inn have won three, TelOne one, while three matches have ended in draws. The Gamecocks have also won the last two meetings between the clubs.
Chicken Inn's recent form suggests they are beginning to hit their stride. Their last five league matches have produced victories over Triangle United, Manica Diamonds and FC Hunters, while defeats came against Hardrock FC and Ngezi Platinum Stars.
Their latest 1-0 away victory over FC Hunters highlighted the tactical discipline that coach Tonderai Ndiraya has been demanding from his players.
Ndiraya was pleased with his team's organisation and patience after the victory, saying the players executed their game plan well and deserved the three points. The coach also expressed his delight after watching Chicken Inn record consecutive league victories once again.
TelOne, meanwhile, have struggled for consistency. Their last five league matches have produced one win, two draws and two defeats, with consecutive losses against Scottland FC and ZPC Kariba leaving them without a goal in their last two outings.
Despite their recent struggles, TelOne remain capable of causing problems and will be eager to spoil Chicken Inn's momentum.
For the Gamecocks, another victory would continue their climb up the table and further strengthen the confidence within the squad as the second half of the season gathers pace.
