Chicken Inn Face FC Platinum In Crucial Luveve Battle As Top-Four Push Intensifies

Chicken Inn return to Castle Lager Premier Soccer League action on Saturday with a crucial Matchday 30 encounter against FC Platinum at Luveve Stadium, with the Gamecocks entering the final five matches of the season determined to strengthen their position and push for a top-four finish.

The Gamecocks sit eighth on 41 points after 29 matches, while FC Platinum are 10th on 39 points. Just two points separate the teams, adding further importance to a fixture that could have a significant bearing on the race for the best possible finish as the league moves towards Matchday 34.

Chicken Inn have had additional time to prepare for the encounter because of the international break. The Gamecocks did not feature in the Munhumutapa Challenge Cup last weekend after being eliminated from the competition, giving Tonderayi Ndiraya and his players an extended period to focus on their league campaign.

FC Platinum also had extra time between league matches, although their preparations included a Munhumutapa Challenge Cup quarter-final against Blanket Mine. The different schedules mean the two sides arrive at Luveve having used the break in contrasting ways, but both will now turn their attention fully towards the league.

For Chicken Inn, the extended preparation comes at an important stage of the campaign. The Gamecocks have put together a strong run of league results and are unbeaten in their last four matches, recording two wins and two draws.

Their most recent outing produced an important 2-1 victory away to Simba Bhora, with Kankonde Tshisungu scoring twice to help Chicken Inn collect all three points. Before that, they drew 0-0 with MWOS, defeated Dynamos 1-0 at Rufaro Stadium and shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw against Highlanders.

That sequence has given Chicken Inn momentum heading into the final stretch. They have shown an ability to pick up results against difficult opposition, and maintaining that consistency will be central to their hopes of moving higher up the table.

With only five matches remaining, there is little room for dropped points for a team with ambitions of finishing among the leading sides. Chicken Inn know that a strong run-in could significantly improve their final position, but the competition around them means every match will carry greater weight.

FC Platinum will provide a particularly demanding test.

Since Thabo Senong made his debut in the FC Platinum dugout, the Zvishavane side have yet to suffer defeat or concede a goal. That defensive record makes Saturday’s match an intriguing battle, particularly for a Chicken Inn side that will need to find a way past a team that has proved extremely difficult to break down.

FC Platinum’s recent league results underline that strength. They recorded a 1-0 victory over Agama, followed it with a 0-0 draw against Scottland and then beat ZPC Kariba 1-0. The three results illustrate how tightly Senong’s side have been operating at the back.

For Chicken Inn, patience will therefore be important. The Gamecocks cannot afford to become frustrated if chances are difficult to create, while concentration will also be required to prevent FC Platinum from taking advantage of any mistake.

The Gamecocks can draw confidence from their own recent defensive displays. They have kept clean sheets in their last two league matches, drawing 0-0 with MWOS before beating Simba Bhora 2-1. That recent stability could prove valuable in what has the potential to be a closely contested encounter.

There is also a score to settle from the first meeting between the teams this season. FC Platinum defeated Chicken Inn 1-0 on 16 May, meaning the Gamecocks will be hoping to produce a different outcome when the sides meet again at Luveve.

The broader head-to-head record also shows that FC Platinum have had the upper hand in recent years.

Looking at the last 10 league meetings between the sides, FC Platinum have won six, Chicken Inn have won two, while the other two matches ended in draws. The sequence began with Chicken Inn’s 2-1 victory over FC Platinum on 31 August 2019, before FC Platinum responded with a 2-1 win on 27 November 2021.

FC Platinum then recorded a 3-0 victory over Chicken Inn on 2 July 2022, followed by another 2-0 win on 1 July 2023. Chicken Inn ended that run on 25 July 2024, beating FC Platinum 2-0, but the Gamecocks could not repeat that result in the following meetings.

The two sides drew 2-2 on 28 March 2024, while the 2025 meetings produced a 1-1 draw on 15 March before FC Platinum claimed a narrow 1-0 victory on 12 July. The most recent meeting, played on 16 May 2026, also ended 1-0 in favour of FC Platinum.

The last 10 meetings therefore read: FC Platinum 1-0 Chicken Inn, FC Platinum 1-0 Chicken Inn, Chicken Inn 1-1 FC Platinum, Chicken Inn 2-0 FC Platinum, FC Platinum 2-2 Chicken Inn, Chicken Inn 0-1 FC Platinum, FC Platinum 2-0 Chicken Inn, Chicken Inn 0-3 FC Platinum, FC Platinum 2-1 Chicken Inn and FC Platinum 1-2 Chicken Inn.

For Chicken Inn, that history provides both a warning and motivation. FC Platinum have dominated the overall sequence, but the Gamecocks have already shown they can beat their opponents, including a 2-0 victory in 2024 and a 2-1 success in 2019.

The immediate challenge is to end FC Platinum’s recent advantage in the fixture. The last two meetings have both gone the way of the Zvishavane side by a 1-0 scoreline, including the first encounter of the current season.

Saturday’s match could therefore become another test of Chicken Inn’s ability to turn their recent league consistency into a result against an opponent that has traditionally caused them problems.

For Ndiraya and his players, however, the bigger picture remains the top-four race. Chicken Inn have positioned themselves within reach of the leading places and cannot afford to lose momentum at a time when the season is entering its decisive phase.

FC Platinum are also chasing a strong finish and sit only two points behind the Gamecocks, meaning a victory for either side could have an important impact on the battle around them.

Luveve Stadium will give Chicken Inn home advantage, and the Gamecocks will be looking to make that count. Their recent unbeaten league run, the additional preparation time and the opportunity to improve on their previous meeting with FC Platinum all provide reasons for optimism.

But the challenge is clear. Chicken Inn must find a way to unlock an FC Platinum defence that has not conceded since Senong took over, while also ensuring they remain disciplined enough to avoid giving their opponents the opportunity to extend that remarkable run.

With five matches left before the league reaches Matchday 34, the margin for error is becoming smaller.

For Chicken Inn, Saturday is an opportunity to turn a promising run into a significant step towards their top-four ambition. Three points at Luveve would strengthen their position, halt FC Platinum’s recent dominance in the fixture and give the Gamecocks another boost as they enter the final stretch of the season.
