Chicken Inn Fall 1-0 to ZPC Kariba in Closely Contested Nyamhunga Battle

Chicken Inn FC suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat away to ZPC Kariba in a tightly contested Castle Lager Premier Soccer League Matchday 15 encounter at Nyamhunga Stadium on Sunday, in a match decided by a single set-piece moment despite a strong and determined performance from the visitors.

The Gamecocks made five changes to the side that featured in their previous outing, with Donovan, Tyrese, Itai, Lincoln, and Kawe all coming into the starting lineup. From the first whistle, Chicken Inn showed good organisation, discipline, and intent, remaining compact defensively while looking to build attacking moves through Sefu, Kawe, and Hapmo.

The opening stages were evenly balanced, with both sides struggling to create clear-cut chances. Chicken Inn were solid at the back, with Sefu particularly effective in breaking up ZPC Kariba’s early attacks, while the midfield worked hard to maintain structure and transition play forward when opportunities arose.

However, ZPC Kariba broke the deadlock in the 23rd minute from a well-delivered free kick, which was met by a powerful header to give the hosts a 1-0 advantage.

Despite going behind, Chicken Inn responded positively and gradually grew into the match. The Gamecocks pushed forward with intent, with Hapmo, Lincoln, and Sefu all involved in promising attacking phases. Several dangerous balls were delivered into the box, but ZPC’s defence remained compact and well organised to deal with the pressure.

After the break, Chicken Inn increased their attacking urgency. Lynoth was introduced for Tyrese early in the second half, adding fresh energy in midfield and helping the team push higher up the pitch. This change saw the Gamecocks enjoy sustained pressure and win multiple set pieces in advanced areas.

Further substitutions saw Mustafa and Temptation introduced, and Chicken Inn continued to dominate possession in attacking zones. A series of corners and crosses kept ZPC Kariba under pressure, with the home side forced to defend deep for long periods.

Despite creating several promising moments and testing the goalkeeper from set pieces, Chicken Inn were unable to find the equaliser as ZPC Kariba held firm under pressure.

Seven minutes of added time offered one final opportunity, but the hosts managed to clear their lines and secure all three points.

The result marks Chicken Inn’s third consecutive league defeat, despite encouraging attacking phases and improved second-half intensity.

In the Matchday 15 standings after the results, Chicken Inn remain in 11th position with 18 points, while ZPC Kariba move up to 12th place with 17 points. However, the full Matchday 15 round is still ongoing, with additional fixtures scheduled to be played today.
