The wait is over! Chicken Inn FC are in Harare today for a crucial Castle Lager Premier Soccer League showdown against title-chasing Scottland FC, with the Gamecocks looking to upset the defending champions and extend their impressive unbeaten run.
The rearranged Matchday 31 encounter kicks off at 3pm at Rufaro Stadium, with both teams having plenty at stake as the season approaches its conclusion.
While Scottland are fighting to retain their championship, Chicken Inn have their own mission: finish the campaign strongly, climb the standings and show that they can compete against the league’s leading sides.
The pressure is firmly on Scottland. They sit second on 64 points after 31 matches, five behind leaders Hardrock FC, who are currently in control of the title race. With only two rounds remaining after today’s fixture, another slip-up could prove extremely costly for the defending champions.
A defeat to Chicken Inn would leave Scottland five points adrift with just six points available from their final two matches. Such a result would virtually hand Hardrock the championship advantage and leave Scottland needing the leaders to drop points while winning their remaining games.
But the Gamecocks have no intention of making the afternoon comfortable for their hosts.
Chicken Inn are 10th on 43 points and arrive in Harare on the back of five league matches without defeat. Their recent run includes a 2-1 victory over Simba Bhora, a 1-0 win against Dynamos and three successive goalless draws against MWOS, FC Platinum and ZPC Kariba.
That defensive consistency will give Tonderayi Ndiraya’s men confidence as they prepare to face a Scottland side that has recorded three wins and two defeats in its last five league outings. Scottland’s most recent league result was a 1-0 victory over CAPS United.
Ndiraya has already made his intentions clear, insisting that Chicken Inn want to finish the season on a high and bring valuable points back to Bulawayo.
“We have a very important game. We are travelling to Harare to play Scottland, a team that is fighting for the title while we are fighting to finish in a respectable position.
“It’s a game that we are looking forward to with a lot of enthusiasm and it is our hope and wish that we will go there and represent the (Chicken Inn) badge well and bring points home,” he said.
The coach also believes his players have made significant progress, highlighting their recent unbeaten run and the potential shown in their performances.
“We want to finish the league on a high. If you recall, we have gone quite a number of games now without tasting defeat. We have done very, very well if you also look at where the team is coming from. As a team we have done tremendously well.”
There is also an interesting personal storyline, with Ndiraya returning to Rufaro against a club he previously guided to the 2025 league championship. He also won the title with Simba Bhora in 2024, making him a two-time league-winning coach now tasked with disrupting his former side’s title ambitions.
History, however, favours Scottland. They have won all three previous meetings between the clubs, including a 2-0 victory in May this year, following 1-0 and 3-0 wins in their two encounters during 2025.
Chicken Inn will be determined to change that record today and claim their first victory over the defending champions. The Gamecocks will, however, have to manage the absence of two suspended players.
For the visitors, this is an opportunity to make a statement, frustrate the title contenders and potentially deliver a huge blow to Scottland’s championship defence.
The stakes could hardly be higher. Hardrock will be watching closely, Scottland need the points, but Chicken Inn have travelled to Harare with their own ambitions.
Gamecocks, the stage is set at Rufaro. It’s matchday, and Chicken Inn are ready for the challenge!
