When Chicken Inn FC began building their squad ahead of the 2026 Castle Lager Premier Soccer League season, one of the areas the club wanted to strengthen was creativity in attack. Among the players brought in to provide a new attacking spark was 20-year-old attacking midfielder Genius Tatenda Hute, who joined the Gamecocks in January 2026 from ZPC Kariba.
Arriving as one of the club’s new signings before the start of the season, Hute was handed jersey number 66 and came with the ambition of making his mark in Bulawayo. The young midfielder has gradually grown into his role, showing why Chicken Inn saw potential in him as they looked to build a competitive squad.
Hute operates mainly as an attacking midfielder, a position that requires creativity, confidence and the ability to make things happen in the final third. His style of play is built around creating opportunities, linking midfield with attack and providing an attacking threat through both assists and goals.
During the 2026 season, Hute has made a positive contribution to the Gamecocks’ campaign. After 25 league matches played by Chicken Inn, the midfielder has featured in 17 games, starting nine of them. He has recorded one goal and three assists, statistics that highlight his growing influence within the team.
His first goal for Chicken Inn arrived during the first half of the season in a match against TelOne at Ascot Stadium. The goal was an important moment for the young midfielder, giving him confidence and showing his ability to contribute on the biggest stage of Zimbabwean football.
Before joining Chicken Inn, Hute was at ZPC Kariba, where he gained valuable experience competing in the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League. His move to the Gamecocks represented a new chapter in his career, with increased expectations and the challenge of competing for a club with a strong football tradition.
Since arriving at Chicken Inn, Hute has continued to develop his game. His ability to find space, create chances and support attacking moves has made him a useful option for the technical team. He is not only a player who looks for goals but also one who can unlock defences and bring creativity when the team needs it.
Chicken Inn’s 2026 campaign has been a season of rebuilding and pushing for improvement. After 25 matches, the Gamecocks are sitting in 10th position on the PSL table with 33 points. They still have one match in hand, leaving them with nine fixtures remaining before the season concludes.
The Bulawayo side’s target is to finish the season strongly and push towards a top-four position. To achieve that goal, performances from players like Hute will be important as Chicken Inn look to collect more points in the remaining matches.
At just 20 years old, Hute is still at an early stage of his career and has plenty of room to continue improving. His first season at Chicken Inn has already shown signs of his ability, with his creativity and attacking mindset making him one of the young players to watch in the league.
For Chicken Inn, having young Zimbabwean talent developing within the squad is an important part of building a stronger future. Hute represents that ambition — a player with potential, determination and the hunger to establish himself at the highest level.
As the 2026 season approaches its final stages, the Gamecocks will hope Genius Tatenda Hute can continue growing in confidence and delivering important performances. With his creativity, vision and ability to contribute in attack, he has the qualities to become an even bigger influence for Chicken Inn in the years ahead.
