Tyrese Hikupembe is entering an important stage of his football career after making the move from Namibia to Zimbabwe and earning recognition from the Namibia national team. The Chicken Inn FC player has quickly become part of a growing story that connects his early experience in Namibian football with his ambitions at club and international level.
Hikupembe officially joined Chicken Inn FC on 31 February 2026, when he signed his contract with the Bulawayo-based club. His arrival at the Gamecocks represented a new chapter in his career and gave him the opportunity to compete in the Zimbabwe Premier Soccer League after previously playing in Namibia.
Before making the move to Zimbabwe, Hikupembe was playing for UNAM FC, the University of Namibia football club, in the Namibia Premier Soccer League. His time at UNAM provided him with valuable experience in senior domestic football and helped him gain regular competitive exposure.
During his spell with UNAM FC, Hikupembe scored one goal and received two yellow cards. He also started more than 15 matches, highlighting the level of involvement he had within the team and the experience he was able to build before making his move to Chicken Inn.
Regular starting opportunities are important for a developing player because they provide the chance to gain consistency, understand the demands of competitive football and learn from different situations during matches. Hikupembe’s appearances for UNAM formed part of that development as he continued to build his footballing career.
His decision to move to Chicken Inn brought a new challenge. Zimbabwe’s Premier Soccer League offered Hikupembe another competitive environment in which he could test himself and continue developing his abilities while adapting to a new club, new teammates and a different football setting.
Joining the Gamecocks also placed him within a club with an established presence in Zimbabwean top-flight football. For Hikupembe, the move was therefore an opportunity to continue his progression while competing for a place within the Chicken Inn squad.
His journey at Chicken Inn is still in its early stages. Having officially signed his contract in 2026, he is continuing to work towards establishing himself at the club and contributing to the team whenever called upon.
At this stage of his Chicken Inn career, Hikupembe has not won any trophies with the club and has not yet received an individual award. However, his progress has already brought him another significant form of recognition through international football.
The biggest development in his career came with his inclusion in Namibia’s provisional squad for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. Being named in the provisional squad represents an important milestone for the Chicken Inn player and gives him an opportunity to compete for a place in the Brave Warriors setup.
The word provisional is important in this case because it means the squad is preliminary and can still be changed before the final squad is confirmed. Nevertheless, being included at this stage shows that Hikupembe has attracted the attention of the national team selectors.
The international call-up also gives him an opportunity to experience football at a different level. Training with the Brave Warriors can expose him to players from different clubs and football environments while allowing him to learn from the demands of international competition.
For a player who only recently made the move from Namibia to Zimbabwe, the timing of the call-up is particularly significant. Hikupembe has moved into a new league with Chicken Inn and has now received an opportunity to return to the international setup of his country.
Chicken Inn have welcomed the recognition of their player. The Gamecocks celebrated Hikupembe and fellow Chicken Inn player Alex Mumbango after both earned call-ups to the Namibia national team for the AFCON 2027 qualifiers.
The club described the selections as a proud moment, reflecting the importance of seeing its players receive recognition at international level. For Hikupembe, the opportunity provides another stage on which to demonstrate his abilities.
International football can also bring valuable lessons for a player’s club career. The demands of national-team football, the environment of an international camp and the experience of working with players from different clubs can all contribute to a player’s continued development.
Hikupembe’s journey so far has therefore been about building experience step by step. His time at UNAM FC gave him a foundation in Namibian top-flight football, his move to Chicken Inn opened the door to Zimbabwean Premier Soccer League football, and his latest Namibia call-up has created another opportunity on the international stage.
His statistics at UNAM — one goal, two yellow cards and more than 15 starts — form part of the early record of a player who has been gaining experience through regular competitive football.
The move to Chicken Inn has now placed him in a new environment where he can continue developing his game. Rather than focusing only on immediate achievements, Hikupembe’s current chapter is about establishing himself, gaining experience and making the most of the opportunities that come his way.
There is also an important personal element to his international recognition. Representing Namibia is an opportunity to wear the national colours and compete for a place among the Brave Warriors. For any player, earning consideration for the senior national team is a significant moment in a football career.
For Chicken Inn, Hikupembe’s call-up provides another example of how players at the club can attract international attention. The Gamecocks will be hoping the experience strengthens the player and adds to his confidence when he returns to domestic football.
Hikupembe will now have the chance to continue his development with both club and country in view. His immediate focus will be on making the most of the national-team opportunity while continuing to work hard at Chicken Inn.
There are still many chapters to be written in his career. He has not yet lifted a trophy with Chicken Inn and has not yet collected an individual award at the club, but football careers are built over time, and his latest international recognition represents another step along that journey.
From his days at UNAM FC in the Namibia Premier Soccer League to his move to Chicken Inn in Zimbabwe, Hikupembe has already experienced football in two different countries. His inclusion in Namibia’s provisional Brave Warriors squad now adds an international dimension to his developing career.
For the Gamecocks player, the challenge is to keep progressing, remain focused and take advantage of every opportunity available to him. The Namibia call-up is not the end of the journey but another important step in a career that is still being written.
As he continues his time with Chicken Inn and looks to make an impression with the Brave Warriors, Hikupembe will be hoping that the experience gained from both club and international football will help him reach even greater heights.
His story is one of a player continuing to build his career through experience, opportunity and hard work — from UNAM FC, to Chicken Inn, and now to the Namibia national team setup.
